Student of the Year 2025 – New York Music Center
New York Music Center Student for Over 10 Years
What I appreciate most about New York Music Center is the high quality of its teachers and how much they truly care about their students. I’m learning at a comfortable pace, focusing on my passions for instrumental performance and music composition. Thanks to the solid musical foundation I received here, I was accepted into a music college with a scholarship and feel well prepared for the challenges ahead. Despite now being in music college, I’ve decided to continue my studies here in piano, chamber music, and composition because I truly value my learning experience and the unique, supportive musical environment at this school.
Jazz Music Theory Student (Double Bass Performance Focus)
Accepted to Oberlin Conservatory of Music – Jazz Performance (Double Bass)
I’m Oliver Miller, a jazz student at New York Music Center, where I study Jazz Music Theory through a practical, hands-on approach that complements my main instrument, the double bass. What I appreciate most about New York Music Center is that the teachers truly care about every student’s growth. They create an inspiring environment that has helped me become a better musician and a better person. One of the highlights of my time at the school was performing in a jazz duo for double bass and piano with my teacher. It was an unforgettable experience that gave me confidence and helped me grow as a performer. Music has taught me discipline, perseverance, and a passion for pursuing the things I care about. I’m proud to continue my musical journey after being accepted into the Bachelor of Music in Performance (Double Bass) program at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and I’m grateful to New York Music Center for helping me get there.

I’ve played the piano for a long time, but I’ve only started playing music since I’ve been at New York City Piano Academy, now New York Music Center. Joining New York Music Center has opened so many doors for me, and I’ve been so lucky to be able to take advantage of so many opportunities. Becoming a student of Ms. Maria Manzano has changed my life. She has helped me become a better musician and person. She coached and mentored me both in and out the classroom. I can say without a doubt that the musician I am today would not have happened without New York Music Center.
